Whiskey

Made from a variety of grains and aged in barrels, this dark, distilled spirit is immensely popular all around the world. Good Whisky has a smooth, oaky flavor with warm hints of spice, caramel and vanilla.
Brandy
To make a classic Hot Toddy sweetened with honey and lemon, you’ll need to start with Brandy. This toasty spirit has hints of citrus zest and flowers and is a cold-weather favorite. It is also the go-to for mixing up a Sidecar with a sugar rim or a creamy Brandy Alexander with a sprinkling of nutmeg from your spice rack. Or grab a bottle of red from your wine storage cabinet, along with some Brandy, and make this easy Mulled Wine.
Dark Rum
White rum is great for summer cocktails, but come fall and winter, well-stocked bar cabinets should include dark rum. Dark rum is reminiscent of sweet, toasted sugar and is the ideal spirit when spiking Mulled Cider or mixing up a trendy Cranberry Mule. Or try Hot Buttered Rum, a festive cocktail that pairs dark rum with butter, vanilla, brown sugar, and warm spices from your spice drawer, including ground cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.
