7 Easy Ways To Organize Your Closet

Living with a disorganized closet can be a headache. Whether you are naturally a neat freak, or are simply looking for ways to make your mornings run smoother, we have a variety of ways you can improve the space in your closet today, from matching hangers to built in cabinets and everything in between.

1. Say Farewell

The first step in organizing your closet space is to get rid of the excess items you no longer need. The fewer items you have in general, the more room you will have to devote to the items that mean something to you. Less clutter also means that you will be able to better organize and find things when you are in a rush to get ready. Ask yourself one simple question: would I buy this again today? If you don’t wear it or use it then the answer is no and it’s time to say farewell to that item!

2. Matching Hangers

Choose to color code different items based on different hanger colors, like blue for jeans, pink for summer sundresses and red for winter blouses. You can also organize your closet with labeled dividers to keep items separate. Consider hangers with swivel tops and a rubberized edge to make sure that everything stays on the hanger and doesn’t fall off.

3. Place Bins On Shelves

Plastic or colorful fabric bins are great for filling with purses, scarves or other small accessories. Label the bins on the outside to keep your closet as organized as possible! Use smaller bins for smaller items such as belts or ties, and clear plastic shoeboxes with lids to keep the dust out.

4. Be Mindful Of Levels

Store your most-used items at eye level and your less-used items below. Your least-used items should be stored up high since you will not have to reach them often. Keep items properly labeled — You’d hate to forget that Grandma’s quilt was in the top corner of your closet!

5. Take Off Doors

Live in a small space? Consider replacing traditional closet doors that swing out with curtains or hanging screens. This can be the perfect opportunity to get creative with prints, as certain patterns will really help tie the look of your room together.

6. Install Hooks

Hooks can come in handy when you hang them inside rather than outside of your closet. Use larger hooks to hang everyday outwear, purses or backpacks, and smaller hooks to hang favorite jewelry pieces or small accessories.

Built in cabinets are the ultimate closet storage solutions. Cubbies can hold jeans with ease, and folded sweaters so they won’t get stretched out. Or create a shoe nook for all your fabulous footwear! Best of all, everything can then be neatly hidden behind cabinet doors.

Keep your closet in top shape by treating it like a small room. If you utilize your space properly you can even make room for a small desk and workspace, depending on the space you have. Pay attention to lighting, wall color, and floor coverings and soon you will have a space that is not only functional but also organized and attractive.
