When we invest in beautiful high-quality cabinets and/or countertops, the last thing we want to do is make a mistake while trying to help them maintain their luster. Typically, the higher quality the finish and material, the more neutral and simple you want the cleaning product and process to be.

Although made with a durable material like solid wood and plywood, high-quality kitchen cabinets can be sensitive on the surface. Keep them clean, shining and protected by using a silicone-, acid-, and wax-free cleaner/polish. Using something more powerful can have adverse effects on color and texture. Erika Tracy from The Kitchn recommends Murphy's Oil Soap if you're really hoping to cut through the grease and grime. For more frequent cleaning, go with a damp cloth that has been placed in plain or soapy water. Make sure that no water residue is left behind.

If you accidentally spill anything on your granite countertops (especially anything that tends to stain), you'll want to wipe it up immediately. Granite is a porous material and therefore does absorb liquids and stain. To clean granite, keep it simple with a damp washcloth. For a deeper clean, you can mix a neutral dishwashing detergent with warm water, dip a washcloth in it, and wipe the counters with a dry towel. If you want to be more proactive than reactive, you might try a stone sealer or polish to make your surfaces more resistant.
