Cozy Ways To Create A More Comfortable Home

There is just something special about this time of year. Come September, the temperatures outside shift from blazing hot to cool and crisp, the leaves start to change colors, and our thoughts turn to fleece blankets, knit sweaters and roaring fireplaces. If you are looking to add an extra touch of warmth and comfort to your home this autumn, read on for some cozy tips!

In the Kitchen

Rustic kitchen cabinets and fall colors epitomize the season when it comes to kitchen design. From rich Saddle and Cinnamon Glaze, to gorgeous Dark Grey Shaker cabinets, toasty kitchen cabinet finishes and countertops add instant warmth to the heart of the home and can help to create a more inviting space for cooking and gathering. In addition to rustic kitchen cabinets, homey touches include a large kitchen table with plenty of seating, seasonal table linens and decor, window treatments, pendant lights, backsplash tile, a cushy floor mat by the kitchen sink, and comfortable bar stools at the kitchen island.

Just like the kitchen, the living room is a place to gather and spend quality time together, especially when cold weather means spending more time indoors. More than any other space (besides the bedroom) a living room needs to be comfortable. The furniture and accessories you choose help to create a snug, stylish, and more personalized space. Options include plush sofas and chairs, ottomans, TV room cabinetry, coffee and end tables, lamps, soft throw blankets and pillows, storage baskets, window treatments, framed family photos on the fireplace mantle, and plush area rugs over wood-look tile or rigid vinyl plank flooring.

In The Bedroom

The fall and winter months call for thick comforters, snuggly wool and fleece blankets, and heavier drapes than you’d see in the spring and summer (think velvet, damask and hefty canvas instead of thin cotton, linen and sheer voile). For our DIY-lovers, you can even sew your own custom lined drapery panels in any fabric to swap out with the seasons. Layer bedding for warmth, and add a soft area rug below your feet for chilly mornings or middle of the night bathroom trips.

Speaking of the bathroom, be sure to keep fluffy towels in your bathroom cabinets or linen closet, and lush bath mats near the bathroom sinks, tub and shower. Also, be sure to hang a robe hook or two nearby — you will surely be glad you did when the temperatures drop! Keep your bedroom and bathroom tidy by installing a custom closet system to house those knit sweaters and other cold weather wardrobe necessities. After all, a comfortable home is typically free of clutter.
