Sometimes you want to do something extra special for your dog to show them how much joy they bring to your life. What better way than with some yummy and healthy homemade dog treats? And even better, giving them their own kitchen storage space for these goodies. Homemade dog treats have the added benefit of being healthy for your pup because you can select all of the ingredients, eliminating anything you know could upset your dog's stomach.
Do you wish that your pup could enjoy some of the wonderful flavors of your snacks, such as cheesy crackers? Using oats, cornmeal, cheddar cheese and a few other basic ingredients, you can make treats that you might even be tempted to snack on.
If you don't want to place your dog treats on the counter but want them in an easily accessible spot, you might try a woven basket with rails in your base cabinets for storage. If your pup has really made it, they might even have their own kitchen cabinet of treats. If you don't want to dedicate a full cabinet width, you might use a base filler pullout cabinet to sneak in some items.
Treat Recipes
When it comes to making treats, there are various directions to go. Let your dog enjoy the flavors of the fall season with recipes from my My Baking Addiction that include pumpkin, apple, peanut butter, and oats.
Or maybe you have a lot of leftovers and want to do something more than repurpose them for yourself. You might make a sort of doggie "trail mix" treat with leftover potatoes, meat, veggies and/or fruit chopped into small pieces. Just remember: No onions, grapes, or raisins and no strong seasonings on the meat. Flatten out the mix, cut it into 1-inch pieces and dehydrate or bake at 200 degrees F until dried. Treats can also easily be made with leftovers from holiday dinners and parties. Try these turkey and cranberry dog treats.
