3 Mother’s Day DIY Spa Treatments Made With Kitchen Pantry Staples

Make this Mother’s Day truly one to remember! Shop The RTA Store May 6 through 11, 2020, and take advantage of our fabulous Mother’s Day Sale prices on a dream bathroom or kitchen. In the meantime, here are some of our favorite DIY spa treatments you can make for Mother’s Day — with staple items found in your kitchen pantry cabinet!

DIY Sugar Scrub

This exfoliating scrub is one of the easiest spa treatments you can make at home. All you need are two simple ingredients: sugar and coconut oil! Combine equal parts pure cane sugar and organic coconut oil, and mix well. Gently apply the scrub to damp skin in a circular motion to remove flakes and dryness. Rinse in the bathroom sink or shower, pat dry, and enjoy silky smooth, moisturized skin. Store any leftover sugar scrub in a tightly covered jar inside your bathroom vanity. Coconut oil is one of the most versatile items in your kitchen pantry cabinet. On its own can be used to moisturize dry skin, soothe chapped lips, and nourish dry cuticles. You can also use coconut oil as a makeup remover, massage oil, and it can even replace shaving cream!

DIY Hair Mask

This hydrating hair mask softens tresses, adds shine, and tames frizz. Warm ¼ cup of organic coconut oil on the stovetop over low heat with ¼ cup honey and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. In case you didn’t know, coconut oil will liquify when warmed. Stir until blended. Apply the warm mixture to freshly washed hair, gently spreading it from your roots to your ends. Twist your hair into a bun and wrap it in a towel, or wear a shower cap. Let it sit for a half hour to deep condition while you soak in the bathtub. Rinse your hair thoroughly and style as usual. If you need more than moisture, check out these DIY hair masks from Good Housekeeping that help with dull flakes, greasy hair, thinning locks, or an irritated scalp.

DIY Bath Salts

Speaking of baths, every mom knows there is no better way to relax and unwind in a dream bathroom. But did you know you can make bathtime even better with homemade bath salts? All you need are a few basic items found in your kitchen pantry cabinet and bathroom vanity, like epsom salts, sea salt, and baking soda. You’ll also need to add about 15 to 20 drops of your favorite essential oil. Soothing aromatherapy scents include lavender, chamomile, bergamot, orange, or lemongrass.
