Laundry Tips For Washing Bedding And Delicates

When you have a well-equipped laundry room, washing clothes is never a chore. With that said, keeping bedding fresh and properly caring for delicates is not quite as easy, even with the laundry room of your dreams. Here are a few of our favorite laundry tips for washing bedding and delicates, so that you can make light work of these items that require extra special care.

Sheets, Pillowcases and Blankets

When you’re ready to hit the sack, there’s nothing quite like cool, crisp sheets and pillowcases. To keep these bedding staples smelling and feeling as fresh as possible, wash them at least once every week or two. Hot water works best for removing body oils and odors. For soft, sweet-smelling sheets, keep your wholesale cabinets stocked with detergent and fabric softener. For tips on folding sheets, read our blog here. As for blankets, these items should be washed every two weeks to keep your bedroom cozy and clean.

Mattress Pads and Pillow Protectors

That protective covering over your mattress can be a pain to deal with, but it still needs the occasional cleaning. Fortunately, mattress pads only need to be washed a few times a year, according to Good Housekeeping. Mattress pads rest below the sheets and don’t get as much bodily contact, so they don’t need to be cleaned as often as sheets and blankets. Pillow protectors, on the other hand, are easier to put on and take off, and should be washed once a month. In most cases, wash these items in warm water and tumble dry on low.

Quilts, Comforters and Duvets

If you have a washer and dryer large enough to accommodate your bedding, you’ll want to wash quilts, comforters and duvet covers once or twice a year. However, if you use these items in place of sheets or a blanket, you should wash these items regularly, just as you would your sheets and blanket. Be sure not to overfill your washer and follow the care instructions on the label.

Delicates

It’s always best to hand wash and hang dry delicates. A stainless farmhouse sink and wall hooks are the ideal addition to your laundry room for this purpose, alongside wholesale cabinets for storing cleaning essentials. If you have a washer with a gentle setting, you can opt to use that method instead, along with mesh laundry bags made for machine-washing lingerie, bras, sweaters and other delicate items of clothing.
