Small Projects to Tackle This Summer

If only we could accomplish in one hour the renovations we see on television. Although that might not be possible, there are quick and cost-effective mini projects that we can take on during our summer down time to greatly enhance spaces in our homes. The best place to start is with what we would call accessories.

Something that can often make a kitchen or bathroom look outdated is the cabinet hardware. Luckily, this is an easy fix that makes a huge difference. Consider purchasing new cabinet knobs and cabinet pulls for your cabinet doors. These come in a variety of styles, finishes and materials. Because of their relatively low-cost nature, this might even be an area where you go with something more trendy rather than traditional.

Hardware on your bathroom tubs and kitchen sinks, and even your kitchen sinks themselves, are also smaller projects with a noticeable impact. It's always easy to spot that yellow gold faucet from the '80s. The summer is the perfect time to replace it with something more in line with your style and the times. And who doesn't love a new showerhead or kitchen faucet that reaches the right water pressure and has the attachments you want? Kitchen and bathroom sinks can give the space a fresh look and make using the space a more enjoyable experience.

Potentially DIY, but likely requiring some assistance, would be adding or refurbishing your kitchen backsplash. If your kitchen cabinets and countertops are somewhat austere, a backsplash is the perfect place to add a pop of pattern, color and/or texture. You'll find so many beautiful options that can be installed in less than a day.

So what are you going to take on this summer? Best of luck with your small projects!
